My internship was a truly amazing experience. From the beginning, Sharon and Jess were so welcoming and made me feel like I was part of their team. They were both very open and allowed me to take part in many aspects of their lives including how they ran the business, trained the horses, and even shared some behavioural cases they worked on. Every day brought new learning opportunities and challenges that helped me gain my confidence and develop my own training skills. It was really encouraging by being with like-minded people who were so invested in promoting equine welfare. Her horses were also gorgeous, very well-behaved, and always keen to take part in training. I felt really supported by Sharon, Jess and the rest of her farm community, and it was great to discuss training techniques along with different aspects of equitation within America. I would highly recommend getting in touch with Sharon if you are interested in learning more about equine welfare, training using ethical methods, and improving your own practical skills.

I spent two months at EquiLightenment as an intern and it was an extremely rewarding experience. I learned so many new skills in handling, training, and caring for horses. I have seen a lot of trainers in action and a lot of times I found myself not agreeing with their methods, but during my internship, I was introduced to positive reinforcement with clicker training and I became a big fan of the process and results of this method. Concerning the facility, the working environment was amazing, the barn is so clean and organized and the property is beautiful. The horses at the facility are so well-behaved and extremely well taken care of. Sharon and Jessica truly have passion and love for their practice and being able to learn from them was a gift. They have a lot of knowledge in what they do and do not hesitate to share it with their interns. I was able to have numerous hands-on opportunities and that greatly affected my learning outcomes. I believe that anyone who is interested in pursuing a career with horses, or animals in general, should intern at this facility. Understanding the behavior of the animals you work with is very important and I can say that since my Internship at EquiLightenment, I have a way better behavior understanding of the horses I work with.
